J Cole:Road to Homecoming HBO Documentary Ep.1

J Cole and HBO have partnered for a 5 part Docu-series about the prolific Hip-Hop Artist as he promotes his latest certified platinum album "2014 Forest Hills Drive. The series follows Cole through  touring, live performances and behind the scenes footage. If you know me you know I'm not the biggest J. Cole fan. He's is great talent; rapper, producer, engineer, writer but he doesn't inspire me the way that artist like Kendrick Lamar and Erykah Badu do. Honestly there aren't many artist that do inspire me. Sure I like their music but do they truly evoke change or provoke thought in me, Nah. With that being said I am still interested in J. Cole the person, and the artist and I think in time he will grow on me and this documentary has definitely aided in that. Being able to see the human behind the "machine" is important to me. It's the vulnerability that relates us. Sometimes you need more than just the music to get know an artists true purpose. I love and enjoy "the process", the production behind the production and this documentary reflects that, well. Might not be worth a subscription but definitely worth the watch. - DJ Nia Boom

Drake - "HotLine Bling"

I tried to resist but I caaaan't this song is soo delicious and the memes didnt help lol. He  did it again ladies and gentlemen. I'm not really a Drake fan but he is making it really hard to stay that way. Although the song is not as original as I first thought, the beat is a sample, from Timmy Thomas' "Why can't we live together" https://youtu.be/cFU-FJzPE80.  Even the beginning of the video is from Spike Lee's "Girl 6" but nonetheless I love what he did with it.  Drake knows how to finesse a track like nobody else…  #6God

Alessia Cara @ Power 105 PowerHouse Pre-Party

@DJNiaBoom
After going back and forth on whether I  should even go, I decided to ignore my exhaustion and hit up the Power 105.1 PowerHouse Pre-Party at Club 42 in the city. I thought the line was gonna be bananas because of the line up but thank God, I was wrong (I hate standing in lines).

After meeting up with
some of my NY Fleet fam we parked on the left side of the stage and at just the perfect time; She was just about to hit the stage. I wanted to see all the performances but reeeally wanted to see Alessia. Her hit song "Here" had me hypnotized ever since I first heard it  2 weeks ago on Vh1 at 4 in the morning. I hurried and scrambled to get my camera and get up close and personal with this new phenom. I struggled to get stable (definitely no room for my tripod)  but was grateful I got to see anything at all as I almost didn't make it. As soon as she hit the stage she was instantly captivating and the audience's reaction was proof.

They were in love and so was I. Which made it even harder to shoot this event (so please excuse my shakiness). I wanted to enjoy her and also wanted to capture her essence. Her simple, yet powerful presence was so refreshing. No make-up, no heels, weave, nails, eyelashes none of the extra shit just the music... I was impressed not because she has a great voice (there are plenty of those) she was just different. She has IT, she got the juice and I was drinking it all up and ready for more. I am excited about her and looking forward to watching her journey and maybe be blessed to interview her one day and tell her thanks for "Here", I needed that….

Beyond Beyonce: Flaunt IT Magazine Shoot

 Wouldn't call myself a Beyonce fan. I appreciate her music but wouldn't spend my last to buy a ticket to one of her concerts or wait in long lines to get her latest album. However when I saw her latest spread for Flaunt it Magazine I was literally in awe. She was more than just a model, more than just a recording artist she was a muse who seemed to elevate every emotion in a physical manifestation that was simply undeniable.
Salute to Queen Bey,  I will bow now : ) - DJ Nia Boom

Sanaa Lathan x Dej Loaf = Emotional

And she sings? The beautiful, talented actress, producer and now recording artist, Sanaa Lathan teamed up with producer Detail and one of the hottest new female emcees Dej Loaf for an "emotional" track for Lathan's new film, "The Perfect Guy.

The track was inspired by Micheal Ealy's character in the movie who is in essence a crazy ass stalker. Who knew Sanaa had pipes. I mean she's no Whitney (but who is) but she definitely surprised me. I wasn't expecting her to use the N-word let alone from the beginning setting the tone for a raw, unedited version of her feeling towards "sensitive men"

I thought she was all about that sensitive shit but she is expressing the complete opposite in this song. Stating "I don't really deal with emotional n*ggas. and stop checking on her. Talking about getting her hair pulled and all. It's a smooth track and displays another side of Lathan that most of us are probably not used to or ready for but I think this might be the first of many for Sanaa.

Dej made for the perfect collab with her soft/hard edge she compliented the song very well.  - DJ Nia Boom

Thank you Kendrick. for never giving up, for never giving in.  There's a time a place for everything and right now he is definitely what's needed. He knows he has a responsibly not only to make great music but to address the real issues that affect our communities. The U.S is experiencing a shift and  we can no longer ignore the ignorance. All I can say is thank God! for music and artists like Kendrick. #MusicTherapy
